Scholarly Work

This season applicants have the ability to:  

  • Group together any related work once their Scholarly Work entry has been saved.  
  • Indicate up to three items that represent your most meaningful work by clicking the star icon that appears next to each entered item.  
  • Select up to 3 most meaningful scholarly works by clicking the star icon next to an entry. 
  • Applicants can preview how programs view the scholarly work section by clicking the preview as program button when in the scholarly work section of the MyERAS application.  
  • If an applicant does not have at least one entry to enter, they must select None. 
  • Please reach out to your Designated Dean's Office for guidance on properly labeling your scholarly work and completing the scholarly work section. 

Adding Scholarly Works 

Applicants must enter each scholarly work under the predetermined types designated by the programs. The scholarly wok types available are:  

  • Journal Articles (peer reviewed). 
  • Book Chapter (peer reviewed). 
  • Journal Abstracts (peer reviewed). 
  • Oral Presentation.  
  • Poster Presentation. 

Fields 

Details 

  • Title 
    • Field available for all scholarly work types. 
  • Name  
    • Required field for Journal Articles (peer reviewed), Book Chapter (peer reviewed), and Journal Abstracts (peer reviewed). 

Authors 

  • Authors 
    • Field available for all scholarly work types. 
    • Enter author(s) names in the order they appear in publication using this format: Lastname FirstInitial MiddleInitial with multiple author names separated by a comma.  
      • Example: Cameron Blake Smith would become Smith CB 
    • Select Your Name and click the "B" button so that your name appears in bold text.  
      • Example: Smith AB, Cline J, Garcia MM, Your name YY 
  • Are you the first author? 
    • Field available for all scholarly work types. 
    • Select yes or no to indicate if you are the first author  

Publication Statuses 

The fields below are only available when adding Journal Articles (peer reviewed), Book Chapter (peer reviewed), and Journal Abstracts (peer reviewed) scholarly work types. 

  • Submitted 
    • Submitted Date  
  • Accepted/In-Press 
    • Accepted/In-Press Date 
    • Pre-print URL 
  • Published 
    • Publication Date 
    • Volume 
    • Issue Number 
    • Pages 
    • URL - optional 
    • PMID (PubMed Identifier) - optional  

Events  

Applicants can add multiple events for each Oral and Poster Presentation they submit. For instance, if an applicant presented the same oral or poster presentation two times, they would follow these steps: 

  1. Add an entry for the oral or poster presentation. 
  2. Click "Add Event" to record the first presentation. 
  3. Click "Save" to save the first entry. 
  4. Click "Add Event" again to record the second presentation. 
  5. Click "Save" to finalize the second entry. 

The fields below are only available when adding an Oral or Poster Presentation.  

  • Event/Meeting Name 
  • Presentation Date 
  • Country 
  • City 
  • State/Province 
  • Event/Meeting URL 
  • Conference Abstract URL

Scholarly Collections 

Scholarly collections serve to help students cultivate a narrative of how their research or scholarly work produced academic output by “grouping” scholarly works. Applicants can manage scholarly collections by clicking “Manage Scholarly Collections.” When managing scholarly collections, applicants can: 

  • Create/add new collections. 
    • 100 character limit for title 
  • Edit the name to a scholarly collection. 
  • Delete a scholarly collection by clicking the trash icon. 
    • Removing a scholarly collection will remove its tags from the scholarly works entries to which it was assigned. This action does not delete the scholarly work entries themselves, only the tags and the collection created. 

To designate a scholarly collection: 

  • Click the vertical ellipsis icon. 
  • Select “Add to Scholarly Collection. 
  • Click the name of the scholarly collection.  
  • Once successfully added, you will see a chip with the scholarly collection title under the designated scholarly work.
