Eligibility
Eligibility for the PREview exam is limited to those preparing to apply to medical schools. During registration, you will confirm that you are taking it solely for the purpose of applying to medical school.
Additionally, examinees are permitted to take the PREview exam twice per administration year. The lifetime limit for the PREview is exam is no more than four times in your lifetime (beginning with the 2024 administration).
The 2024 Testing Calendar
The PREview exam will be offered on the following dates and score reports will be released approximately 30 days following each testing window. Dates are subject to change.

Registration Instructions

Step 1 | Before registering for the PREview exam, please create an AAMC account or verify that you already have one. |

Select the “Log In To Your AAMC PREview Portal” button on the PREview webpage. After you enter your AAMC credentials, you will be asked to ensure your name exactly matches the name on the ID you will present on exam day. Once you confirm that your name is correct, the AAMC system will then direct you to the registration and scheduling system, Meazure, managed by our vendor, Yardstick. Your AAMC ID, first and last name, and email address will be automatically sent to Meazure, where you will be unable to update this information. |
Step 3 |
Once in the PREview portal, navigate to the “Products” tab where you will be able to select "AAMC Professional Readiness Exam (PREview) 2024" and be taken to the scheduling webpage. You will then select "Online Proctoring" and choose your time zone, test date, and appointment time. Be certain to select the time zone in which you will be taking the exam and note that your exam time is displayed in the 24-hour clock (military time). For example, if you will be taking the exam at 8:00 a.m., your exam time will be 08:00, and if you will be taking the exam at 8:00 p.m., your exam time will be 20:00. |

Step 5 | Once you have scheduled your test, you will receive a confirmation email and gain access to an exam tutorial demonstrating the functions and features of the exam software. |

Fee Assistance
Examinees approved to receive AAMC Fee Assistance Program benefits will pay $0 for the first PREview registration and will receive a 50% discount for subsequent registrations. If you do not attend your scheduled exam (no-show), you will not receive another free exam registration; you will receive the 50% discount on your next exam registration if your Fee Assistance approval has not expired. Fee Assistance recipients are subject to all other PREview rules and deadlines, and Fee Assistance benefits will not be extended as a result of failing to comply with any rules or deadlines. Fee Assistance for Canadian Examinees
Canadian examinees who qualify during the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada’s (AFMC’s) will receive the Fee Assistance Program benefit of a voucher for one free PREview exam and a 50% refund ($50 value) for subsequent exam registrations in 2024. Scheduling Policies and Procedures
The Schedule Fee for the 2024 PREview exam testing year includes the cost of the exam and score release to an unlimited number of schools.
Cancellation Refund
You may cancel your exam up to 24 hours prior to your appointment. If you cancel your appointment and later decide you would like to take the PREview exam, you will be able to schedule a new date in a future window for the applicable fee if appointments are available.
To cancel your appointment and receive your cancellation refund, please submit a ProctorU Request Form.
No Show
If you do not attend your scheduled exam and you do not reschedule or cancel by the deadline, your registration fee is non-refundable. You may schedule a new date in a future window for the applicable fee if appointments are available.
Retesting within the Year
The below table represents the earliest possible date that you can retest in the 2024 testing year based on when you choose to take the exam the first time in within the testing year. You may wish to consider receiving your score for your first exam before deciding to register for an additional exam attempt, but it is not a requirement to wait until scores are released. The stated refund policy will apply. Therefore, if you decide to schedule an additional exam attempt prior to scores being released and then decide to cancel, you will receive a 50% rather than a full refund.

Reschedule Procedures
You may reschedule your exam appointment, subject to deadlines associated with your scheduled exam date, by selecting the reschedule option available next to your scheduled appointment date in the PREview Portal.
- If you reschedule prior to the registration deadline associated with your current appointment, you may reschedule into the same or later window if appointments are available.
- If you have approved accommodations for your exam, you may need to confirm that your accommodations will be available for a rescheduled exam date. Please refer to your approval letter. If you are rescheduling a paper exam or an exam requiring a human reader or scribe, you must give the AAMC 30 days' notice of your new exam date and contact us at previewaccommodations@aamc.org, or your accommodation will not be available on your new exam date.

Deadline Exceptions
The AAMC may grant an exception to the above deadlines and/or fees for extraordinary circumstances. To request an exception, send a completed Request to Reschedule form along with supporting documentation to askpreview@aamc.org no later than seven (7) days after your exam date.
The AAMC will consider an exception to the above deadlines and/or fees for one of the following reasons:

You experience a death in your immediate family. | Funeral program, obituary or death certification. The death or service must have taken place within 10 days of your exam date. |
You must perform primary caregiver duties for someone who is sick. | A doctor's note that states the person you are a primary caregiver for cannot be left without your assistance or availability on exam day. We will also accept power of attorney documentation for health-related emergency decision-making. Please do not send hospital records. The sickness must have occurred within 10 days of your exam date. |
You are unexpectedly called away to active military service. | Official request for deployment dated within 30 days of your exam date. The deployment date must be within 30 days of your exam date. |
