Why did the AAMC develop the supplemental ERAS application?
The supplemental ERAS application is intended to help programs better identify applicants who are genuinely interested in their program, and whose interests and experience align well with the program’s setting, mission, and goals.
Who is eligible to complete the supplemental ERAS application? Is it required or optional?
Applicants (MD, DO, and international graduates) applying to residency programs in any of the participating specialties are eligible to complete the supplemental ERAS application, though it is optional.
Is it necessary for applicants to complete both the MyERAS application and the supplemental ERAS application?
Applicants to participating residency programs are encouraged to complete both the MyERAS application and the supplemental application. The two applications contain different information. All sections and questions within the supplemental ERAS application are optional.
Do I have to submit the supplemental ERAS application and MyERAS application at the same time?
No. The supplemental ERAS application and the MyERAS application have different submission deadlines. The supplemental ERAS application will open on August 1 and close at 5:00 p.m. ET on September 16. Once submitted, all responses will be available to program directors on September 28. Applicants do not need to complete or submit their MyERAS applications by September 16.

Are all programs in all specialties participating in the supplemental ERAS application?
Each residency program within the participating specialties has the option to participate. Not all programs within these specialties will use the supplemental ERAS application data.

For internal medicine, the supplemental application will be for categorical track residency programs only.
For all other specialties, the program signals will be available at the program level.
The supplemental ERAS application asks applicants to provide more information about themselves to programs. Where can applicants learn more about participating programs?
The supplemental ERAS application is designed to provide more information about applicants and to support the holistic review of applicants. The AAMC offers several tools to help applicants learn more about programs. The free Residency Explorer™ tool allows students to search and compare programs based on features that are important to them. The AAMC’s Careers in Medicine website provides tools and information to help them choose a specialty.
