Although you will be testing from a remote location, you will still be connected with a live, human proctor. Testing in the remote proctoring environment means that you will be able to contact someone in a timely manner and receive immediate support to minimize disruptions to exam completion. The following provides more information regarding what you can expect from your remote proctoring experience.

Before You Begin:

How to Plan What to Avoid
  • Remove watches, headphones/earphones, and sunglasses.
  • The proctor may ask you to show your ears and forearms as part of the check-in process. If you choose to wear earplugs during your exam you must present them to the proctor before you begin testing.
  • If you require hearing aids, please refer to Resources Not Requiring Prior Approval.
  • Remove non-religious head coverings.
  • Hats, hoodies, any type of head covering that is not for religious purposes. If you wear a religious head covering or other religious garment, you will be asked to show your ears and forearms as part of our security check, but you will not be asked to fully remove these items or bare your ears and forearms for the duration of the exam.

Before the proctor can allow you to access your exam, you must:

  • Provide access to your device’s camera and microphone.
  • Share your screen.
  • Share your photo ID on camera. The proctor will use your ID in conjunction with biometric facial- recognition software to authenticate your identity.

The proctor must perform systems checks to ensure your computer is working optimally for the exam platform and may ask to take control of your computer. You will be able to observe all actions the proctor takes, which may include changing some of your computer settings and closing software and applications that are not permissible during your exam.

The proctor will verify that:

If you do not meet any of the requirements above, you will not be permitted to take the exam and will not be eligible for a refund.

During the Exam:

As you take your exam, the proctor will continue to monitor your screen, camera, and microphone. The purpose of this live monitoring is to assist should you experience a technical problem during your exam, and to ensure you are following the terms stated in the Examinee Agreement. If the proctor determines you are not adhering to these requirements, they may end your exam session. If this occurs, you will not be eligible for a refund.

Requirements Not Permitted
  • You must remain seated at your computer for the duration of your exam.
  • Unless you have received an accommodation specifically related to these actions, the following are not permitted during the exam:
    • Standing
    • Excessive movement
    • Taking a break and leaving the room, even to go to the bathroom
  • You must remain silent during the exam unless preapproved for a specific accommodation.
  • Reading questions aloud.
  • You must remain in view of the camera at all times.
  • Please note that leaning in to read may inadvertently cause you to move out of camera frame. We encourage you to check the angle of your camera before you begin the exam to mitigate any issues.

After the Exam:

At the end of your exam, prior to closing your session, you may ask the proctor to assist you in adjusting your computer to its original settings.

We would appreciate your participation in our survey, which will be available after you complete your exam. We use survey responses to understand the test taking experience, including the ease of setting up for and taking the exam.
