Register for the AAMC PREview® Exam

The AAMC PREview® professional readiness exam is offered from April through September of 2025. PREview exam registration for the 2025 testing year will open on February 25 at approximately 10 a.m. ET. Please note you will not see the 2025 exam dates in the scheduling system until registration opens. Once registration opens, examinees can register to take the PREview exam by accessing the PREview Portal.

Eligibility 

You are eligible to take the PREview exam if you: 

  • Are intending to apply to an eligible health professions program, 
  • Are taking the exam from an approved location, and
  • Have not reached the testing limits. 

If you do not meet one or more of the eligibility guidelines but still wish to take the PREview exam, you may request special permission. Please see the Eligibility Requirements webpage for more information.

The 2025 Testing Calendar 

The PREview exam will be offered on the following dates and score reports will be released approximately 30 days following each testing window. The exam will be delivered on each test date from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern Time. Appointments can be displayed in local time within the examinee portal. Appointments will be offered every 15 minutes, and each test date has a limited number of available appointments. Dates are subject to change.

Registration Instructions 

An AAMC account is required to register for the PREview exam. If you have already created an AAMC ID at any time or for any reason, such as registering for the MCAT exam, you must use the same username and password when registering for your PREview exam. 

If you cannot remember your username or password, YOU MAY NOT create a new AAMC ID. Doing so is in violation of AAMC account Terms and Conditions and may create delays in the registration process for you. For help recovering your account information, please contact the AAMC Account Help Team or reset your password. 

If you do not have an AAMC account, you must create one here.

Step 1

Select the “Log In To Your AAMC PREview Portal” button on top right of this webpage. After you enter your AAMC credentials, you will be asked to ensure your name EXACTLY matches the name on the ID you will present on exam day. You will not be able to make changes once you confirm your information and schedule your appointment.

Step 2

Click on the “Products” tab and select "AAMC Professional Readiness Exam (PREview) " to be taken to the scheduling webpage.  

Step 3

Select "Online Proctoring" and choose your desired time zone, test date, and appointment time.  

NOTE: The exam time is displayed in the 24-hour clock (military time). For example, if you will be taking the exam at 8:00 a.m., your exam time will be 08:00, and if you will be taking the exam at 8:00 p.m., your exam time will be 20:00. 

Step 4

Click the “submit booking” button and complete the checkout and payment process.  

Step 5

Once you have scheduled your test, a confirmation email will be sent to you. 

Note: You will NOT see your PREview appointment in the MCAT Registration System. You must access the PREview portal to see your PREview appointment; the MCAT Registration System only reflects MCAT appointments.

AAMC Fee Assistance Program

Examinees approved to receive AAMC Fee Assistance Program benefits will pay $0 for the first PREview registration and will receive a 50% discount for subsequent registrations. If you do not attend your scheduled exam (no-show), you will not receive another free exam registration; you will receive the 50% discount on your next exam registration. Additionally, the Fee Assistance benefits include a 50% discount for rescheduling fees. Fee Assistance recipients are subject to all other PREview rules and deadlines, and Fee Assistance benefits will not be extended as a result of failing to comply with any rules or deadlines. Fee Assistance for Canadian Examinees  

Canadian examinees who qualify during the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada’s (AFMC’s) first application period will receive the Fee Assistance Program benefit of a voucher for one free PREview exam and a voucher for 50% discount for subsequent exam registrations in 2025. Retesting within the Year

Examinees may take the exam no more than two times in the same testing year and no more than 4 times in their lifetime (starting in the 2024 testing year). You may wish to consider receiving your score for your first exam before deciding to register for an additional exam attempt, but it is not a requirement to wait until scores are released. The stated refund policy will apply.

Scheduling Policies and Procedures  

The Schedule Fee for the 2025 PREview exam testing year includes the cost of the exam and score release to an unlimited number of schools.   

Cancellation Refund  

You may cancel your exam up to 48 hours prior to your appointment. If you cancel your appointment and later decide you would like to take the PREview exam, you will be able to schedule a new date in a future window for the applicable fee if appointments are available.   

To cancel your appointment and receive your cancellation refund, please log in to the PREview Portal and select the “Exams” tab at the top of the window. From there, the cancellation button will be visible. Once you have successfully cancelled your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email.   

No Show

If you do not attend your scheduled exam and you do not reschedule or cancel by the deadline, your registration fee is non-refundable. You may schedule a new date in a future window for the applicable fee if appointments are available.

Reschedule Procedures

You may reschedule your exam appointment, subject to the deadline associated with your scheduled exam date, by selecting the reschedule option available next to your scheduled appointment date in the PREview Portal.

  • The deadline to reschedule your exam is two weeks prior to your appointment and is based on your scheduled appointment time and time zone. For example, if your appointment is scheduled for May 7th at 8:00 am Eastern Time, you must reschedule your exam before 8:00 am Eastern Time on April 23.  
  • If you reschedule prior to the registration deadline associated with your current appointment, you may reschedule into the same or later window if appointments are available.
  • If you have approved accommodations for your exam, you may need to confirm that your accommodations will be available for a rescheduled exam date. Please refer to your approval letter. If you are rescheduling a paper exam or any accommodation that requires in-person testing at a professional testing center, you must give the AAMC at least 30 days' notice of your new exam date and contact us at askpreview@aamc.org, or your accommodation will not be available on your new exam date.
