Eligibility

You may sit for the PREview exam if you are preparing to apply to and attend a MD or DO program that accepts PREview scores for admission and you are not currently or previously enrolled in a MD or DO program. At the time of registration, you will be required to agree to a statement verifying that you are taking the exam solely for the purpose of applying to and attending a MD or DO program.

The 2023 Testing Calendar 

The PREview exam will be offered on the following dates and score reports will be released approximately 30 days following each testing window. Dates are subject to change.

Registration Instructions 

Step Instruction
Step 1 Before registering for the AAMC PREview exam, please verify that you have an AAMC account or create one.
Step 2

Select the “Log In To Your AAMC PREview Portal” button on the AAMC PREview professional readiness exam webpage. After you enter your AAMC credentials, you will be asked to ensure your name exactly matches the name on the ID you will present on exam day.

Once you confirm that your name is correct, the AAMC system will then direct you to the registration and scheduling system, Measure, managed by our vendor, Yardstick. Your AAMC ID, first and last name, and email address will be automatically sent to Measure, where you will be unable to update this information.
Step 3

Once in the PREview portal, navigate to the 'Products' tab where you will be able to select "AAMC Professional Readiness Exam (PREview) 2023" and be taken to the scheduling webpage. You will then select "Online Proctoring" and choose your time zone, test date, and appointment time. 

Be certain to select the time zone in which you will be taking the exam and note that your exam time is displayed in the 24-hour clock (military time). For example, if you will be taking the exam at 8:00 a.m., your exam time will be 08:00, and if you will be taking the exam at 8:00 p.m., your exam time will be 20:00.

Step 4 Input your address and payment info to confirm your purchase and secure your appointment.
Step 5 Once you have scheduled your test, you will receive a confirmation email and gain access to an exam tutorial demonstrating the functions and features of the exam software. The exam tutorial will be available up until the time you begin your exam, and you can complete it as many times as you desire. 

 

Registration Fees

AAMC PREview 2023 testing year fees for registration activities are provided in the fee table, additional information is listed below.

Registration fees are waived for examinees that have been approved for the AAMC Fee Assistance Program.

Scheduling

The Schedule Fee for the AAMC PREview exam 2023 testing year includes the cost of the exam and allows test takers unlimited score sending.

Reschedule

You may reschedule your exam appointment, subject to deadlines associated with your scheduled exam date, by selecting the reschedule option available next to your scheduled appointment date in the AAMC PREview Portal.

  • Registration for a given test window closes approximately two weeks before the first test date in that window.
  • If you reschedule prior to the registration deadline associated with your current appointment, you may reschedule into the same or later window if appointments are available.
  • Deadlines for each window are outlined in the table below.
  • If you have approved accommodations for your exam, you may need to confirm that your accommodations will be available for a rescheduled exam date. Please refer to your approval letter. If you are rescheduling a paper exam or an exam requiring a human reader or scribe, you must give the AAMC 30-days-notice of your new exam date and contact us at previewaccommodations@aamc.org, or your accommodation will not be available on your new exam date.

Cancel

You may cancel your exam up to 24 hours prior to your appointment. To cancel your appointment and receive your cancellation refund, please contact Yardstick Measure support:

If you cancel your appointment and later decide you would like to take the PREview exam, you will be able to schedule a new date in a future window if appointments are available.

No Show

If you do not attend your scheduled exam and you do not reschedule or cancel by the deadline, your registration fee is non-refundable. 

The AAMC may grant an exception to the above deadlines and/or fees for extraordinary circumstances. To request an exceptionsend a completed Request to Reschedule form along with supporting documentation to askpreview@aamc.org

The AAMC will consider an exception to the above deadlines and/or fees for one of the following reasons:

Reason Documentation
You are hospitalized on your scheduled exam day. Hospital records
You experience a death in your immediate family. Funeral program or death certification
You are unexpectedly called away to active military service. Official requests for deployment
You are unexpectedly called away for health care service duties related to a catastrophic event.  Official requests for service
You are called to jury duty for the date of your exam. Official requests for jury duty
You are displaced from your residence due to a natural disaster.  Proof of displacement

Exam Tutorial

Yardstick’s Measure platform provides a tutorial demonstrating the functions and features of the exam software available. The tutorial will be available to you once you successfully log in to Measure and it will be available up until the time you begin your exam. You can complete it as many times as you desire. To access the exam tutorial, log in using your AAMC credentials.
