The AAMC is centralizing the MCAT® and PREview® accommodations application process into one system. The updated and integrated system will allow you to apply for accommodations for one or both exams. Learn more about the new system here.

Review timelines vary depending on whether you are submitting a new request or an extension and your current status with MCAT® accommodations.

For the 2025 testing year, you must be approved for accommodations no later than two weeks prior to your testing window for most accommodations, to allow time to prepare and implement any approved accommodations.

Certain accommodations require in-person testing and must be approved at least one month in advance of your testing window:

  • Paper exams.
  • Support from a scribe or human reader.
  • Use of Bluetooth enabled hearing aids while having permission to read aloud.

Since most applicants for PREview accommodations have applied for or will be applying for accommodations on the MCAT exam, the review timeline for PREview accommodations is dependent on your current MCAT accommodations application status.

Keep in Mind

  • The review cycle will restart for incomplete applications that are re-submitted.
  • Be mindful of the application requirements associated with your request so that you do not prolong the review process. This may prevent you from testing on your preferred test date with accommodations. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received and cannot be expedited.

The chart below shows the review cycle that can be applied to any test date. If your accommodations are not approved in time for your preferred test date, you may still test under standard conditions. Or you may reschedule your exam if the rescheduling deadline has not passed and you pay the applicable rescheduling fee.

To receive a determination in time for your preferred exam date, please submit your application with enough time for the review cycle noted in the chart below, which is based upon your application type. Please note that examinees must be informed of their eligibility no later than two weeks prior to their desired testing window (for most accommodations) in order to allow time to implement any approved accommodations.

Application Type Review Cycle
Current MCAT Approval - Requesting the same accommodations 30 days
Current MCAT Approval - Requesting new accommodations 60 days
Pending MCAT Application or when submitting applications for both exams at the same time in the online application system 60 days
Initial Application (no current approval or pending MCAT application) 60 days
Current PREview approval and requesting additional accommodation(s) 30 days
Reconsideration 30 days
Appeal 30 days

You may register for and schedule the PREview exam before or after you have been approved to take the exam with accommodations. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received and cannot be expedited.

Please Note: New applications received after August 1, and applications received prior to but not complete until after August 1, may not be reviewed in time for implementation in the September testing window. Therefore, they will be considered for the following testing year.
