A Participant’s Perspective: Dr. Amber Lee

A student pictured at graduation

The Masters in Biomedicine at Arkansas Colleges of Health Education played a crucial role in preparing me for medical school by strengthening my academic foundation and enhancing my understanding of core sciences. As a non-science major in undergrad, the master’s program was essential in bridging the gap between my previous studies and the rigorous scientific coursework required for medical school. Through this program’s rigorous coursework and hands-on experiences, I developed the discipline, critical thinking skills, and study habits necessary to succeed in a demanding medical school curriculum. The structured environment of the postbaccalaureate program also helped me cultivate the study habits and time management skills needed to thrive in medical school. The fast-paced environment required me to stay organized and disciplined, ensuring that I could keep up with the coursework. These skills were proven invaluable in medical school, where balancing lectures, labs, and clinical rotations required exceptional time management. Beyond academics, exposure to clinical settings and mentorship opportunities reinforced my passion for medicine and solidified my decision to pursue a career as a physician. Now, almost five years post-graduation from the MSB program, I have had many years to reflect on my time in the program. Overall, the program helped me transition from a non-science background to becoming a confident and capable medical student, and well-prepared me to meet the demands of a medical career. I am grateful for the opportunities and support the program provided, as they laid the foundation for my future success in the field of medicine.
