Preparing for Change: Federal Student Loan and Repayment Updates

Upcoming federal student aid changes taking effect July 1, 2026, will bring substantial shifts to how incoming medical students finance their education. Join the AAMC’s FIRST (Financial Information, Resources, Services & Tools) team, together with Casey Wiley, Manager of Financial Aid, University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, Committee on Student Financial Assistance Chair (COSFA), and Doug Stupec, Associate Director of Medical Student Financial Aid & Student Records, Schmidt College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University, COSFA Southern Region Representative, for an informative session on student aid policy changes stemming from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the new rules, outline their impact on federal student loan programs, and clarify how repayment plan options will change moving forward. Important considerations related to taking a leave of absence or pursuing a research year will also be discussed, along with other guidance relevant to current and incoming medical students.
