Premed Reads

This year, we’re featuring five books written by premeds or medical students who’ve been in your shoes (some of which you may recognize from previous Premed Navigator articles). These books range from enchanting medical fiction to practical advice and personal stories, while offering a mix of inspiration, guidance, and honest insights. We hope you enjoy! 

Diary of a Med Student – Daniel B Azzam & Ajay N Sharma 

This book offers medical students, doctors, premed students, and their loved ones a space to reflect on their emotions and experiences, told from the perspective of two medical students who attended the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine. 

All That's Left Behind Paperback – CaraMia Alberga 

Based on a true story, this book explores healing after loss. Alberga is currently a naturopathic medical student at the National University of Health Sciences. 

His Mortal Demise – Vanessa Le  

Le combines medicine, magic, and her Vietnamese heritage in the conclusion to The Last Bloodcarver series. Le is currently a medical student at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. 

Doctah-ing it Up – Ja’Neil Humphrey 

This guide for adapting to the culture of medicine and navigating the academic, lifestyle, and professional changes that come along with medical school is written from the perspective of a first-year medical student who attended Loma Linda University. 

My Journey: Trust the Process – Leanne Wong 

This book follows Wong’s journey in the sport of gymnastics. When she wrote My Journey: Trust the Process, Wong was on the premed track at the University of Florida.
