In the new AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities program, will I be able to view and process domestic students and international students in one software?

Yes, the new application service is designed to allow you to easily view and manage domestic and international students in one location. The decision to be part of both U.S. and Global networks is made at the leadership at your institution. If your institution has opted into the Global Network, either as a home or host institution, you will be able to send your students abroad and/or receive international visiting students.

Students will pay $40 for up to three applications submitted (to any institution; in the U.S. or Global network) and $15 for each additional application. Application fees are per elective regardless of requested dates for that elective.

If a department requires an additional requirement, you have the ability to create and tailor requirements for certain electives or an institution can also tailor requirements for different student populations.

As a current VSAS user, is my institution automatically a part of the global network as a result of the merger?

No. Each institution will determine if they wish to participate in the U.S. network, global network or both.

Will I receive incomplete applications from students who have not submitted all of the requirements?

No. You will only receive completed applications that includes submitted requirements. Applications can only move to the next phase once all requirements have been submitted.

When will we be able to publish our elective catalogs?

We advise you to attend one of our host trainings that focus on uploading and publishing catalogs. We advise users to upload their 2018-19 elective catalogs in the new VSAS application service since the elective template/csv file will be different from the current format.

Institutions

We are interested in the Global Network, although we only want to receive applications from certain international medical schools. Is this possible?

Yes, if you are participating in the Global Network you can receive applications from certain medical schools. There is the ability in the application service to exclude international medical schools from which you do not want to receive applications.

In addition to electives for final-year medical students, the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities program provides a pathway by which qualified students may apply to pre-clinical, community-based global/public health and research opportunities. Some opportunities are for final-year students, while others are for students in the pre-clinical years of study.
