About VSLO
The VSLO program aspires to build a community of institutions that employ unified policies and practices that do not burden students or institutions with redundant requirements. As such, the program is continually balancing and streamlining the application process while supporting institution-specific processes.
Program Scope
Many participating institutions, both in the United States and across the globe, are seeking engagement in a collaborative network that encompasses more than visiting student mobility. The three-pillar framework below reflects varied institutional aspirations and represents areas for programmatic growth and development, particularly given that internationalization is a goal of many organizations.

Our Networks
Only institutions that join the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities program may post opportunities in the application service, and only students who attend participating institutions may apply for opportunities through the application service.
The U.S. Network comprises institutions located in the United States that either send their students to other U.S. medical schools or receive students from other U.S. medical schools.
The Global Network comprises institutions located in the United States or another country that either send their students to international locations or receive students from international locations.
Note: All U.S. institutions that send or receive students to or from other U.S. institutions are part of the U.S. Network. In addition, if a U.S. institution sends its students abroad or receives international students, it is also part of the Global Network.
All institutions located outside the United States are part of the Global Network.
VSAS Application Service
The VSLO program’s centerpiece is the VSAS application service.
Host institutions publish and manage elective offerings, select students, and, upon completion of the elective, submit an evaluation to the student’s home institution.
Home institutions review and release student applications, track progress, and, ultimately, determine whether to grant elective credit. The VSAS application service streamlines the application process for students and for home and host institutions.
