About VSAS®

The Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS®) is an AAMC application designed to streamline the application process for senior "away" electives. VSAS enables medical students to submit just one application for all institutions, effectively reducing paperwork, miscommunication, and time.

Which institutions use VSAS®?

Home Schools

U.S. LCME-accredited medical schools and COCA-accredited medical schools will only use VSAS as a home school if their students apply for senior away electives at any of our participating host institutions.

Host Institutions

Participating VSAS host institutions may be either a U.S. AAMC-member medical school or member of the AAMC's Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH).

If students are not applying to one of these institutions, they should use the Extramural Electives Compendium (EEC) for visiting student application information.

Canadian and International Students

VSAS is not available for Canadian or international students. Please use the Extramural Electives Compendium (EEC) to review visiting student application information.

Students from participating institutions worldwide can pursue clinical, research, and public health electives outside their home country through Global Health Learning Opportunities® (GHLO®).

Data Policy

The AAMC and VSAS recognize the importance of responsibly collecting and guarding the information we receive from our users. The AAMC has developed data policy guidelines to prevent the exposure of personal data without prior permission of the individual.
