Coronavirus (COVID-19) and ERAS
The AAMC is on mandatory telework status as of March 13 as Washington, DC – where the AAMC is headquartered – is under a state of emergency due to the coronavirus outbreak. We have taken the critical steps to ensure all operations, systems, and services are in place to support the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) with remote staffing.
To address questions regarding the applicant transition to graduate medical education during the COVID-19 crisis, the National Resident Matchin Program (NRMP®) has created these Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). While the situation remains fluid, NRMP will continue to monitor conditions and update the FAQs as new information and/or questions emerge. Please feel free to contact the NRMP leadership with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Coalition for Physician Accountability’s Work Group on Medical Students in the Class of 2021: Moving Across Institutions for Post Graduate Training made recommendations on major issues facing applicants and training programs as they prepare for the 2021 residency application cycle. In the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Coalition recommends a delayed opening of ERAS for residency programs and a delayed release of the MSPE with a shared date for both. After much consideration for everyone involved and in collaboration with AAMC affinity groups, specialty organizations, and the ERAS Advisory Committee, ERAS has determined that on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, residency programs will gain access to applications and MSPEs will be released to residency programs. These date changes are reflected on the ERAS 2021 Residency Application Timeline.
After much consideration and in collaboration with several AAMC affinity groups, specialty organizations, and the ERAS Advisory Committee, ERAS has modified the July cycle fellowship program timeline. July fellowship programs will now gain access to applications on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. This date change is reflected on the ERAS 2021 Fellowship Application Timeline.
